Filed in Florida 2019

The refrigerator quit on a Friday night. We come out Saturday.

Refrigerators, washers, dryers, ranges and dishwashers, repaired in your kitchen or laundry room, across Kendall and southwest Miami-Dade.

$65 flat for the service call and the diagnosis — applied to the repair if you go ahead with it. Two technicians, two vans, one bench on Mills Drive. We do not sell appliances and there is nothing to purchase on this page.

The shop

JL is my father. Half of Kendall still calls us that.

My dad, José Lima, ran an appliance bench out of the garage in Westchester for twenty-two years. People brought him dryer motors and control boards and he fixed them on a folding table under a shop light. I grew up handing him nut drivers. When I filed the company in Florida in 2019, the plain version of the name was already taken in the state records, so the paperwork came back as GROUP JL LLC and I left it alone — changing a filing costs more time and money than it is worth when the bank account, the invoices and the lettering on the van already say JL.

The address on that filing, 8306 Mills Drive #452, Miami, FL 33183, is a real unit and it is where the bench, the parts wall and the paperwork live. It is not a storefront. Nobody walks in to look at appliances, because we do not sell appliances. Almost all of the work happens at your address, in your kitchen, with the machine still plugged into your wall.

About the name of this website, since it explains nothing on its own: pescol is not a word. It came off a list of short names that were still available. Pes is from my mother's maiden name, Pesqueira; col is from what everybody called my father, Colo. Every sensible combination of “appliance” and “repair” and “Miami” with a .com behind it was taken or parked for four figures. The .shop ending was what was available and cheap that afternoon, and it happens to be literally true — this is a repair shop. There is no cart on this site, no checkout, and no price you can pay from your phone. You call, we come out, you pay the technician at the kitchen counter once the machine runs.

GROUP JL LLC is a limited liability company registered with the Florida Division of Corporations under SunBiz Document # L19000218769, active since 2019. That filing is public and anyone can look it up on SunBiz and match it against the name, the address and the phone number printed at the bottom of every page here.

Two things we do not do, and I would rather say them out loud than have somebody find out the hard way. We do not open sealed refrigeration systems — compressor and refrigerant work goes to a licensed HVAC contractor and I tell you that on the phone before we drive out. And we do not hand your job to anybody else. Every call is booked by us, worked by our own two technicians, invoiced by the LLC and paid to the LLC. We are not a directory, not a franchise, not a referral service, and your phone number never goes to another shop for a cut.

Rates

What the common jobs cost, before we knock on the door.

Parts and labor together, for the machines we see most in Kendall. A quote goes on paper before anything is opened. If the repair costs more than the machine is worth, we say so — that conversation happens every week.
JobWhat it involvesPrice
Service call & diagnosis Technician comes out, tests the machine, tells you what failed and what it costs. Applied to the repair if you approve it. $65
Dryer with no heat Heating element and thermal fuse on most Whirlpool and GE cabinets, plus pulling the lint out of the vent run that killed the fuse in the first place. $175
Washer that walks on spin Four worn suspension rods, tub pulled and reset, balance checked on a full load before we leave. $185 – $240
Refrigerator not cooling Defrost system: heater, thermostat or control board, depending on what failed. Coil thawed and the drain line cleared. $210 – $385
Dishwasher that will not drain Drain pump replaced, chopper and check valve cleared, sink air gap checked. $195
Gas range that clicks but will not light Glow-bar igniter replaced — the old one usually still glows, it just stopped pulling enough current to open the gas valve. $168
Ice maker rebuild Module and fill valve on Samsung and LG side-by-sides, fresh water line, cycle tested twice. $240 – $310
Board repair at the bench Small units and control boards dropped at unit 452 by appointment. Relay and solder work, tested on a jig before pickup. from $95

Saturday work is the same price as a weekday. There is no after-hours surcharge and no trip fee on top of the $65. Payment is card, cash or check to GROUP JL LLC, taken at your home when the job is finished — never through this website.

90 days, parts and labor

If the part we installed fails inside ninety days, we come back and there is no second bill.

That covers the part and the labor to put it in. If the same symptom comes back on a machine we touched, call the number at the top of this page and we schedule you ahead of new work — usually the next morning.

We also tell you when not to spend the money. A fourteen-year-old top-load washer with a bad transmission is not worth $600 of our time, and we will say that on the first visit rather than sell you a repair that fails again in March. In that case you owe the $65 diagnosis and nothing else.

The work

Four calls from an ordinary week in southwest Miami-Dade.

Freezer full of iceThe Hammocks · side-by-side

Customer said the fridge side was warm and the freezer was fine. Opened the back panel of the freezer and the evaporator coil was one solid sheet of ice with the fan blade chattering against it. The defrost thermostat had stopped closing, so the heater never ran and the coil never cleared.

Coil thawed with a steamer, defrost thermostat and heater replaced, drain line flushed because it was plugged with the same ice. Back to 37°F in the fresh food compartment overnight.

Dryer taking three cyclesOlympia Heights · electric

Nothing wrong with the dryer. The vent run went up into the attic and across to the roof cap, and we pulled a felt sock of lint out of it roughly the size of a football. The machine had been cooking itself for a year, which is what took out the thermal fuse two months earlier.

Fuse and element replaced, full vent run cleared and the flexible transition hose swapped for rigid pipe. Load dried in forty-five minutes instead of two and a half hours.

Washer walking out of the closetKendall Lakes · top-load

On a heavy spin the machine was moving four inches across the tile and banging the closet door. People assume motor or bearings; it is almost always the four suspension rods, worn out so the tub cannot recover from an off-balance load.

All four rods replaced as a set, tub reset, then run on a full load of towels with the panel off to confirm the tub settles instead of oscillating.

Range that clicked foreverWestchester · gas

The oven igniter glowed bright orange and the burner never lit, so the owner was sure the igniter was fine. Clamp meter said 2.7 amps. A healthy glow-bar pulls somewhere around 3.2 to 3.6 amps, and below that the safety valve simply never opens no matter how bright the thing looks.

Igniter replaced, bake and broil both tested to temperature with a probe thermometer before we packed up.

Contact

Tell us the brand, the model plate and what it is doing.

The fastest way is the phone — we answer it ourselves. A photo of the model and serial plate texted to the same number saves a trip, because we can bring the part on the first visit instead of the second.
